If you live in either the US, UK, Japan or Mexico you’ll be able to “if you see it, just sat it” when Kinect launches later in the year. If you don’t happen to live in one of those four countries you will probably will have to wait until sometime in 2011 to be able to tell your Xbox what to do.
Microsoft PR manager Lidia Pitzalis said in an interview with Eurogamer Spain. Mentioning that Germany, Itality, France and Spain would have to wait until a Spring 2011 update for them to be included.
It’s quite a feat for Microsoft to be able to support the plethora of different accents from the various countries, and both the US and UK will have different software versions to support those accents. If you happen to speak perfect English but don’t live in one of the supported launch countries you’ll sadly still be out of luck as it will be disabled until official support is added.
Microsoft has today shown of the new controller they’ll be shipping in a few months time in the US and sometime around February in Europe. As well as a new colour scheme it now offers an improved D-pad.
They’ve even come up with a little catch phrase: “from a plus to a disc with the twist of the wrist.”. I’m a little baffled as to why Microsoft has decided to remove the colours from the buttons as they helped new gamers to glance at what button they needed when a game prompted them.
The controller is only available as part of a Play & Charge kit for $64.99. Keep reading for a video of MajorNelson showing off the new kit. (more…)
Speaking to EuroGamer, Xbox Live Studios boss Jerry Johnson said that a refresh which will coincide with the release of Kinect will see an upgrade in the audio codec used in the Xbox 360 and the underlying infrastructure.
“The codec we used when we first launched was a low bit rate codec and we stuck with that,”
“We launched and we said we required broadband. We required a 64k connection, which not many people think of as broadband any longer. But that was the minimum requirement to run the service at the time. “
It’s seems now fat pipes are more prevalent we’ll hopefully see a sizeable upgrade in the audio quality.
This has long been one of the downsides of LIVE for a while now and it’s great to see Microsoft still wanting to improve key areas of the service.
