Red Faction: Battlegrounds downloadable title announced
THQ has today announced the development of Red Faction:Battlegrounds. It’s aimed to be released on the PlayStation Network and as a Xbox Live Arcade title. It’s the first downloadable title in the Red Faction franchise. The game is being developed by THQ Digital Studios UK, and executive produced by Volition, Inc.,
The title is focused on fast-paced multiplayer action based around vehicular combat in vehicles ranging from fast-attack vehicles, large heavy tanks and combat walkers to wreak havoc above and beneath the surface of the Big Red Planet. It wouldn’t be Red Faction if it didn’t offer demolition and it does. Allowing players to destroy anything that gets in their way.
“The pick-up-and-play multiplayer action of Red Faction: Battlegrounds adds a completely new perspective to the acclaimed Red Faction franchise,” said Kevin Kraff, Vice President of Global Brand Management, THQ. “Just as in other Red Faction games, you can pretty much blow up everything. Only this time, you do it with your friends using hulking mechs, armored tanks and combat walkers.”
The game pits four player locally or online in a variety of game modes including Survivial, Annihilate and Flag Frenzy. There is a ranking system in the game allowing you to get rewarded for your destruction and unique bonus content will be playable in the upcoming title Red Faction: Armageddon game.
Red Faction: Battlegrounds is expected sometime in 2011.
